We take packaging seriously

While sustainable packaging options are becoming more available, we’re still frustrated with the greenwashing that goes on. For us, this isn’t just a marketing ploy to get more sales. As parents, we want to do the very best we can to reduce our footprint on the planet, as it’ll be our children and grandchildren who will be left with this legacy.

The circular economy is essential to keeping waste out of the landfills and reducing our reliance on producing more plastic, because we feel less is more when it comes to plastic. We thought long and hard about the best packaging option for honey and unfortunately plastic is the most durable... no one wants to receive a broken pot in the post, with sticky honey oozing out.

We decided on rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) packaging as we took into consideration the following benefits:

  1. Eco-friendly and Sustainable: rPET is made from recycled plastic, helping to reduce plastic waste and the need for virgin plastic production. It supports a circular economy by repurposing materials and decreasing the environmental impact.

  1. Reduced Carbon Footprint: Producing rPET requires less energy compared with making new plastic, which helps lower carbon emissions.

  1. Durability and Protection: rPET is a strong and lightweight material that protects the honey from external elements, preserving its freshness, flavour and natural wellness properties. It’s resistant to breaking and is great for maintaining the integrity of the product.

  2. Recyclability: rPET is 100% recyclable, meaning it can be reused multiple times.  This encourages a recycling culture and ensures that the packaging can have a      second life, helping to reduce waste in the long run. - rPET uses 79% less energy.

Reducing the need for virgin materials aligns with our ‘tread lightly’ principle.

rPET uses recycled materials, providing an end use for plastic that would otherwise go into landfill.
