Story of King Bees

Most folks know about Queen Bees and their dedication to the hive.  No questions are ever asked about the King Bee - does one exist? Where is he in all this?

It turns out the King’s duty is not inside the hive, but out in the rugged terrain where he serves the hive with honour. As caretaker of the land and bees, the King’s role is invaluable and keeps him busy throughout all seasons.

Some say... he’s seven feet tall.

Some say... he lives deep in the woods in a remote corner of the world.

Some say... he has the stamina to service 1,000 Queens.

But those in the know say that King Bees Honey is a simple case of honey mastery by the dedicated King Whanau (family) based in the eastern hinterland of New Zealand. A place where Kings do exist (but the Queen is the boss).

From our family to yours

For many generations, our family has fostered a profound connection with nature and the land. Our ancestor James Busby was New Zealand’s first British Resident who hosted the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, which he signed on his front lawn. His passion for New Zealand's natural landscape and agricultural practices runs through our veins and seven generations later we are still caring for the land as our ancestors once did.

Our knowledge and expertise have been passed down, resulting in honey that reflects our family's legacy and commitment to excellence. With King Bees, you not only enjoy exceptional honey but also become a part of our family story. Every jar holds the essence of our ancestral heritage and the natural benefits of Mānuka. As a family business, we take pride in delivering a high quality, natural product that supports and invigorates the daily life of people around the world.

King Bees Honours Nature

Our team take personal pride in every step of the honey harvesting process, ensuring exceptional care of the hives and maintaining the highest standards. We oversee all aspects of honey production, from meticulously tending to our bee colonies to carefully extracting and packaging each jar. By maintaining full control of the process, we can ensure the purity, authenticity, and exceptional taste of our honey for our customers to enjoy.

Kaitiakitanga – Guardianship preservation and conservation

Our role as kaitiaki (guardians) requires us to protect and nurture our environment and it will, in turn, protect and nurture us.  This extends to the mana (power, essence), the tapu (sacred), and the mauri (life energy) of our environment – of plants and animals, of water and land.  There are many rituals associated with our role as kaitiaki, such as planting, harvesting and storage.  Our connection as kaitiaki is eternal. We have no other land or sea. Our wellbeing and identity as a people is entirely dependent on the wellbeing of our environment.

Our lifestyle as beekeepers mirrors our deep-rooted love for the great outdoors. We embrace the beauty and wildness of our surroundings, fostering a harmonious relationship with the land, bees, and plants. With every jar of honey, you experience the rich flavors of our remote environment, captured by the bees that thrive within it. We are adventurers at heart, constantly exploring our unique remote environment.

By deeply understanding our surroundings, we can better care for our bees and enable them to produce honey that is second to none. Our commitment to preserving this special place is unwavering, ensuring that future generations can enjoy its wonders.
